Abstract

Background : Diced cartilage grafts are a valuable addition to rhinoplasty surgery. They are highly flexible and useful throughout the nose. Their use simplifies oneof the greatest challenges in all of rhinoplasty; the dorsal augmentation.Complicationshave been relatively minor and their correction relatively simple.Patients and Methods:22 patients were included in this study, age ranged from 17 years to 45 years old.Primary cases were 8 cases while secondary cases were 14 patients. Costal cartilage was used in 10 patients, nasal septum was used in 10 patients, while the conchal cartilage was used in 2 patients. Tempero-parietal fascia was used in 6 patients while fascia lata in 4 patients. The non-wrapped diced cartilage grafts were used in 10 patients. Results:18 patients showed significant improvement of their nasal profile with high patients{u2019} satisfaction, 2 patients showed over correction, while 2 patients showed under correction. Clinically, 8 patients showed evidence of partial resorption 3 months post-operatively. 6 of them showed evidence of total graft resorption within 9 months postoperatively. However, the 10 patients who underwent the non-wrapped cartilage grafts showed more persistent results during the 1st year follow up as well as higher patients{u2019} satisfaction. Conclusion:Diced cartilage grafts had been used for decades in rhinoplasties, however the great variability in the techniques and continuous evolution of many modifications highlight the deficiency of wrapped cartilage grafts to meet the aimed results. In our study the resorption rates represented the main drawback especially for the fascia-wrapped cartilages grafts. However, the use of the non-wrapped diced grafts showed more promising results, less resorption rates and higher patients{u2019} satisfaction
