Abstract

Context: Organizations tend to determine their strategic goals that they want to achieve. Organizations need to measure the degree of ful_llment of their goals. Thus, organizations establish so-called performance indicators (PIs). PIs are quanti_able measures that the organizations used to measure the progress towards the achievement of goals. The input to calculate these measures are the daily operations of an organization. So, it is logical to measure PIs based on the running of the business processes. Business processes are the means by which an organization operationalizes the achievement of its goals. Enacted business processes produce what is so-called process execution logs. A process execution log contains information about the activities, their timestamps and the resources who participated to their execution. Such information is used to measure process performance. The quality of PIs measures is bounded to the quality of the input log as the log can be rich or poor. Also, the quality of PIs is a_ected when the log contains overlap between activities for the same human resource. As some human resources appear to have more than one task active concurrently, thus resulting in human multitasking. Objective: We introduce a proposed approach to extract performance measures from process execution logs that expose more about states of activities such as allocate, start, complete etc
