Abstract

Different methods for the determination of some drugs used in the treatment of diabetes, in bulk and dosage forms have been introduced in this thesis. The cited drugs are metformin, alogliptin, sitagliptin, pioglitazone, gliclazide, glibenclamide, repaglinide, nateglinide, mitiglinide, glimepiride and glipizide. chromatographic part includes simultaneous determination of metformin, sitagliptin, pioglitazone, gliclazide, glibenclamide and repaglinide; which was applied afterwards for counterfeit drug analysis in some herbal medicines. Also, the chromatographic part includes a method for simultaneous determination of metformin, glipizide, glimepiride or pioglitazone and repaglinide in the presence of metformin impurity, 1- cyanoguanidine and another method for simultaneous determination of meglitinides class with metformin in the presence of 1-cyanoguanidine which was also applied for determination of repaglinide in the presence of its related compounds. A chromatographic study was also described for simultaneous determination of metformin, sitagliptin, simvastatin and ezetimibe. An HPLC method was introduced for simultaneous determination of alogliptin, pioglitazone, glimepiride and ezetimibe and applied in different single and combined pharmaceutical dosage forms. Spectroscopic part includes the simultaneous spectrophotometric determination of pioglitazone-glimepiride binary mixture using CRACLS, PCR and PLS chemometric methods. Statistical analysis was carried out for comparing results of the new methods with reference methods exhibiting good values and revealing insignificant difference
