Abstract

Nowadays modern study of nanotechnologies deals with water purification and wastewater treatment, due to their effectiveness, economics and safety properties. Magnetic nanosorbents such as nano zero valent iron (nZVI) proved to be an effective method for inorganic and organic contaminants removal from water and soil. In this study successfully prepared and used nZVI and encapsulated nZVI in alginate for phosphate, PAHs, BTEX and ClP removal from aqueous solutions under different operating conditions of time, adsorbent dose, pH, stirring rate, initial concentrations and temperature. phosphate removal efficiency between 91 and 100% was achieved after using different phosphate concentrations (1, 3, 5, and 10 mg PO₄³⁻-P/L) with 0.2 g of nZVI/L, pH 3.5, stirring rate 100 rpm and 15 min contact time and between 42 and 66% was achieved after using the same concentrations with 20 g/L wet Ca-alginate/nZVI, pH 6.5, stirring rate 100 rpm and 30 min contact time. PAHs removal efficiency between 43 and 56% was achieved after using different PAHs concentrations (222, 74, and 37 æg/L) with 0.2 g of nZVI/L, pH 7, stirring rate 100 rpm, 30 {u00BA}C and 30 min contact time, and between 50 and 75% was achieved after using the same concentrations with 20g/L wet Ca-alginate/nZVI, pH 7, stirring rate 100 rpm, 30 {u00BA}C and 30 min contact time. BTEX removal efficiency between 93% and 97% was achieved after using different BTEX concentrations (36, 24, and 12 æg/L) with 0.22 g of nZVI/L, pH 7, stirring rate 100 rpm, 40 {u00BA}C and 30 min contact time, and between 86 and 95% was achieved after using the same concentrations with 30 g/L wet Ca-alginate nZVI, pH 7, stirring rate 100 rpm, 40 {u00BA}C and 45 min contact time
