Abstract

Aim of the work: The aim of this work is to assess validity and cross cultural adaptaion of an arabic version of PROMIS for use in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients, to compare between PROMIS and traditional legacy instrument and to correlate between PROMIS and disease activity measures. Patients and methods: One hundred RA patientswere recruited for this study, from the rheumatology and Rehabilitation outpatient clinic, Faculty of medicine, Cairo university hospitals. All patients fulfilled ACR/Eular 2010 criteria of RA. They were asked to completea validated written form of Arabic HAQ and an Arabic version of PROMIS short forms including physical function, pain intensity, pain interference, fatigue, anxiety, sleep disturbance and depression. The items of the PROMIS were translated and cross culturally adaptedusing general guidelines. A pretest sample of twenty RA patients was used for cognitive evaluation of translated version and estimation of internal consistency reliability via measuring cronbachsalpha. We assessed convergent validity by examining pearson correlations between PROMIS measures and existing legacy measures (HAQ, PGA) and known groups validity by correlating scores with disease activity levels (CDAI, DAS28) using ANOVA. Results: The translated Arabic form of PROMIS showed good internal consistency reliability with a Cronbach{u2019}s alpha ranging from 0.7 to 0.9. There was highly statistically significant correlation between different domains of PROMIS (P<0.01,r=0.37-0.68). Highly statistically significant correlation of PROMIS domains with HAQ P<0.01, r=0.37-0.85 as well as with PGA P<0.01, r=0.3-0.67 was found
