Abstract Background: Transforming growth factor Ý1 (TGF-Ý1) is a cytokine that performs many cellular functions. It has been found that gene polymorphism of this protein is associated with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). The aim of this study was to evaluate the association of TGF-Ý1 gene polymorphism (rs1800470) with LVH in some hypertensive Egyptian patients. Subjects and methods: This study was conducted on three groups: group 1: 30 hypertensive patients with LVH -diagnosed by Echocardiography- group 2: 30 hypertensive patients without LVH- and group 3: 30 healthy subjects served as a control group. SNP rs1800470 polymorphism was detected by Taqman real time PCR. Results:-There was no statistically significant difference in the genotype distribution among the three studied groups (p=0.47). - Urinary A/C ratio was satistically significantly higher in LVH {u2013}patients than that those without LVH (p<0.000). Conclusion: The association of TC and CC with a higher clinical severity of hypertension seems to indicate that TGF-Ý1 is a susceptibility locus for hypertension |
