Abstract

Background: Vitamin D deficiency has been a global pandemic.
Emerging evidence suggests that vitamin D may play a role in the
aetiology of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
Aim of work: To evaluate the relationship between vitamin D levels and
glycemic control in type 2 diabetic patients.
Patients and Methods: This study was conducted on a total of 100
patients with T2DM. These patients were divided into three groups
according to the level of HbA1c, and their ages were between 35 to 70
years.
Results: We found that the prevalence of Vitamin D Deficiency in
patients with T2DM was 75% in our study. Also, we found that Vitamin
D levels have a negative correlation with glycemic control, but this
correlation was not statistically significant (r=0.06, p=0.55)
Conclusion: There was no significant relationship between Vitamin D
and glycemic control in T2DM patients
Recommendations: Further studies are needed and should include larger
sample size and different populations to establish the complicated link
between vitamin D, T2DM and its micro and macrovascular
complications
