Abstract

Anaemia is a frequent blood illness in which there is decreased tissue oxygenation either due to quantitative or qualitative impairment of hemoglobin
The World Health Organization (WHO) describes anaemia as Hb level below thirteen g/dl for adult men & belowtwelve for adult non pregnant women
Another definition of anaemia had been done by WHO stated that anaemia is a condition in which the number of red blood cells & its O2 carrying capacity is under the nomal range hence, Hb level in the blood becomes under the predictable value, when ”sex, time of life, gravidity & certain environmental elements” such as” altitude” are put in consideration Still there is no universally agreement about classification of the severity of anaemia during serious sickness & there are different variations between trials done in U.S.A & Europe as European trials considered anaemia when Hbbelow12g/dl while in U.S trials they consider anaemia when Hbbelow13 for males & hemoglobin below12g/dl for females Anaemia is frequently seen in intensive care unit, Anaemia is defined by WHO as Hb level being less than the normal range concerning sex, age & other elements that may disturb or alter the relation between volume of plasma with hemoglobin levels as in the case of pregnancy& trauma as distinctive examples Big groups of trials were done to reveal the prevalence of anaemia during intensive care unit circumstances .the most popular are {TRICC study & CRIT} study methodology which concluded that a majority of people having anaemia when admitted to intensive care unit ; ”but due to differences in case mixture & methods of study, patterns &sites , the occurrence of anaemia at intensive care unit admission is variable, nevertheless they revealed that twenty percent-thirty percent of patients are having reasonable or stern anaemia (Hb level below9g/dl) Although there are differences in case mixture & transfusions applications during intensive care residence, the prevalence of moderate to severe anaemia level below 9g/dl) at a given period throughout intensive care unit stay seems to be 40-50 percent in the majority of intensive care unit patients. By another words, if anaemia is n’t there at the time of intensive care unit entrance it wsick evolve quickly during the 1st two-three days in different patient’s .When present; anaemia seems to persist tsick intensive care unit discharge.
