Albino rats (n=56) of Sprague Dawley Strain weighting (180±5) housed in well aerated individual wire cages under hygienic laboratory in (Faculty of Home Economics). In the beginning of the experimental rats divided into fourteen groups (four rats for each group) all groups fed them all a high fat diet for two weeks to be obese , then Feed them after that as follows: group 1: Basal Diet (60%starch, 15%protein, 25 %fat),group 2: (50 % fructose, 15 % protein, 35 % fat), group 3: (45 % fructose, 15 % protein, 40 % fat),group 4: (40 % fructose ,15 % protein, 45 % fat),group 5: (50 % gum Arabic, 15 % protein, 35 % fat),group 6: (45 % gum Arabic, 15 % protein, 40% fat),group 7: (40 % gum Arabic, 15 % protein, 45 % fat),group 8: (50 % starch, 15 % protein, 35 % fat),group 9: (45 % starch, 15 % protein, 40 % fat),group 10: (40 % starch, 15 % protein, 45 % fat),group 11: Basal Diet + Drug),group 12: (50 % starch, 15 % protein, 35 % fat) + ½ Drug),group 13: (45 % starch, 15 % protein ,40 % fat) + ½ Drug),group 14: (40 % starch, 15 % protein, 45 % fat) + ½ Drug). The results indicated significantly lower levels of LDLc, VLDLc, liver enzymes (ALT and AST), body weight, with groups which feed on Arabic gum and high fat diet. On the other hand, Arabic gum increases the values of SOD and CAT (antioxidant status). |
