Abstract

The usual indication for surgical resection of tonsils is chronic recurrent tonsillitis. Literature also does not indicate the reason behind the fact that only part of the population suffers from recurrent chronic tonsillitis in spite being exposed to similar conditions.

Children with positive stool antigen test for helicobacter pylori, aged 2-18 years, both sexes and scheduled for elective tonsillectomy due to recurrent or chronic tonsillitis were included in the study. Patients who had taken antibiotics, patients who had taken proton pump inhibitors, or H2receptor antagonists and antacids during a four-week period prior to surgery and patients who had an indication for tonsillectomy of a diagnosis other than chronic recurrent tonsillitis were excluded from the study. Specimens were analysed with PCR.
