Abstract Cardiovascular diseases represent the leading cause of death in the world, resulting in over 17 million deaths annually. These diseases include diseases of the heart, vascular diseases of the brain and diseases of vessels. Palpitation is one of the most common problems which are seen among the outpatients who present to internists and cardiologists. Palpitations should be considered as potentially more serious if they are associated with dizziness, near-syncope, or syncope< Patients with palpitations of unknown origin presenting with clinical features suggestive of an arrhythmic cause, should be referred to an arrhythmia centre, and second-level investigations should be considered; these include ambulatory ECG monitoring and electrophysiological study (EPS). |
