Abstract
The main purpose of this research was to investigate the role of total quality management (TQM) practices in increasing supply chain efficiency in pharmaceutical corporations in Egypt. Another point of this research is to investigate if there is a discrepancy in the implementation of TQM practices regarding different types of ownership of pharmaceutical corporations either private, public or multinational. In addition, this research focused on if there is a discrepancy between supply chain professionals in implementing TQM practices regarding their different work experiences in these pharmaceutical corporations.
The problem of this research is that ”There is instability of supply chain costs in pharmaceuticals corporations across the last four years and this instability reflects inefficiency of supply chain management in these corporations and its ranking among its competitors”.
The instrument of collecting data for this research was a questionnaire to supply chain professionals either general managers , supply chain managers, production managers, quality managers, or quality control managers, in pharmaceutical corporations in Egypt who possess sufficient knowledge about TQM practices and supply chain efficiency. So that the integration between TQM practices and supply chain efficiency is very important to gain competitive advantage.
The main findings from this study suggest that: 1-There is a significant relationship between total quality management practices (TQM) and supply chain efficiency. 2-There are significant differences between pharmaceuticals corporations in the level of implementing total quality management practices according to the type of ownership.3-There are differences between supply chain professionals in pharmaceuticals corporations in the level of implementing total quality management practices according to the years of experience. Based on these results the main recommendations were:-Improving employees skills and capability in facing changing competitive environment, Deployment of IT into supply chain activities, Establish proper Communication channels with suppliers and Reinforce quality control function to tackle problems and reduces errors.
