Abstract Thgeneral target for the research is to evaluate and optimize the performance of the A²/O process as phosphorus and nitrogen removal technology for wastewater treatment using the UASB as an anaerobic unit at local conditions in Egypt, enhsncing the whole wastewater treatment performance and decreasing the produced sludge for wastewater treatment. The system consisting of an anaerobic up flow anaerobic sludge blanker (UASB) followed by anoxic unit then aerobic activated sludge (AS) for the removal of carbonaceous, nitrogenous and phosphorus contaminants at an average temoerature of 25{u00BA}C was investigated. First; the UASB reactor performance was investigated for the treatment of domestic wastewater at different operational temperatures 14 - 25{u00BA}C and hydraulic loading rates |
