Different types of abuse experienced by infertile females attending infertility clinic at Kasralainy hospital

Abstract
Methods: This was cross- sectional descriptive study conducted on 300 infertile women who were selected through convenient sampling method. The questionnaire used in this study included socio-demographic data about the infertile woman and her husband, medical data related to infertility and the domestic violence questionnaire with questions about physical, emotional, economic, sexual violence, social pressure, exposure to traditional practice and exclusion domains. Data were analyzed by SPSS15; descriptive statistics, independent t- test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used for data analysis.Results: three hundred women with the mean age of 27.72 ± 5.1 years participated in the study. Participants were subjected to at least one form of emotional abuse, 50% of participants were exposed to physical abuse and 11% to sexual abuse. There was significant relation between domestic violence and socioeconomic status, age, duration of marriage and duration of infertility.Conclusion: The majority of the infertile women experience violence. Domestic violence against infertile women is a problem that should not be ignored. Clinicians should identify abused women. Providing counseling services to women in infertility treatment centers is suggested to prevent domestic violence against infertile women
