Abstract

It is of vital importance to find new markers that may be more indicative to the disease progression thus, planning a treatment regime that would be more effective. This study presents a prospective analysis to investigate the pivotal role of B2m as a serum marker that may potentially help in assessment of disease activity in some diseases as hepatitis C patients, hepatitis B patients, systemic lupus erythematosus patients and renal impairment patients. B2m was assayed by ELISA, CRP level was assayed nephlometrically, whereas liver enzyme (ALT) was evaluated by kinetic methods. The kidney function factors as urea was measured by enzymatic method and creatinine was evaluated using buffered kinetic Jaffé reaction without depolarization method. ANA and anti- dsDNA were evaluated using ELISA for SLE disease. Serum ALT activity, CRP, and B2m levels of female HC patients exhibited higher correlation with stages of the liver than male patients. However, serum CRP concentration of male and female patients showed the highest correlation factor with liver stages. Serum CRP concentration and B2m levels for male HB patients exhibited higher relation with stages of the liver than female patients. However, serum ALT activities of female patients showed higher relation with liver stages than male patients. Serum ANA levels, anti-dsDNA levels, CRP concentration and B2m levels for male SLE patients exhibited higher relation with stages of SLE than female patients
