Abstract

In this thesis, two electrochemical sensors were investigated for the determination of nitrite (NO₂⁻) and perchlorate (ClO₄⁻) ions. The nitrite sensor depends on the covalent immobilization of iron(III) monoamino-phthalocyanine (Fe(III)MAPc) on gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) electrodeposited on glassy carbon electrode (FeMAPc- MPA/AuNPs/GCE). The perchlorate sensor depends on the use of cobalt(II) monoamino-phthalocyanine (Co(II)MAPc) linked with a covalent bond to acrylate polymer to form a modified polymer (CoPcAP). CoPcAP was then deposited by dip-coating onto gold electrode (SiO₂/Si/SiO₂/Ti/Au). The electroanalytical performance was determined by using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) for the nitrite sensor and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) for the perchlorate sensor. The two sensors exhibited a good sensitivity with a linear range (1.9 æmol/L to 2.04 mmol/L) and a detection limit of 0.21 æmol/L for the nitrite sensor and a linear range (0.91 nmol/L to 1.0 mmol/L) and a detection limit of 0.91 nmol/L for the perchlorate sensor. Overall, the nitrite and perchlorate sensors showed a good sensitivity and specificity
