المستخلص Objectives: To Assess the effect of gap arthroplasty on immunocompetence of patients with temporomandibular joint bony ankylosis in regard interleukin-1Ý . Results: A significant increase in the level of IL-1Ý were detected in the surgical group preoperatively as compared with control group. Interleukin 6 recorded a significant increase at all intervals postoperatively. IL-1Ý began to decrease at two weeks postoperatively but still did not reach preoperative levels . Conclusion: The present study revealed that patients of temporomandibular joint bony ankylosis have a significantly high level of serum IL-1Ý preoperatively. Gap arthroplasty and its relevant jaw mobilization have a direct effect on immuno competence. It was apparent in the increased level of IL-1Ý postoperatively. |
