Abstract

This study aimed at identifying the relationship between psychosocial stressors and QOL of adolescents{u2019} psychiatric patients at El-Abbassia Mental Health Hospital. A descriptive correlational design was utilized in this study. A sample of convenience of 100 adolescents psychiatric patients were recruited from the adolescents’ outpatient clinics of Governmental Mental Health Hospitals. A four tools were used to collect data from patients. Four tools included a socio-demographic and medical data questionnaire, the problem oriented screening instrument for teenagers{u2019} questionnaire, life event inventory and quality of life profile .Results of this study revealed that, more than half of the sample was females, most of them were not married, students and not working, in the age group ranged from 14-16 years old and {u2265}17 years old. More than two thirds of the sample was diagnosed as conduct, depressive and bipolar disorders. There was a highly statistically significant positive correlation among the problem oriented screening instrument for teenagers and life event inventory and negative correlation with quality of life profile. In conclusion, most of the adolescent psychiatric patients experienced many psychosocial problems along with a multiple stressful life events this affected negatively their quality of life. Therefore, it is recommended that psycho education program should be provided to parents/career about the proper way of dealing with adolescents, periodical checkups should be done for adolescent psychiatric patients to assess the impact of psychosocial treatment and health education on quality of life, further studies are necessary using a large probability sample for generalization of results and a psychotherapeutic program
