المستخلص

Hepatitis C accounts for a sizable proportion of cases of chronic liver disease, and cases of hepatocellular carcinoma and represents the most common indication for liver transplantation. Determining the presence or absence of significant fibrosis is essential in deciding protocol of management of patients infected with HCV, however liver biopsy is an invasive procedure with an occasional complications, for this reason, a non-invasive method for assessing hepatic fibrosis is needed. The aim of this study is to evaluate the diagnostic value of the non-invasive biomarkers by performing a systematic review and meta-analysis on relevant Egyptian research material, and then a practical study will be done on this biomarker aiming to further assess its effectiveness in the evaluation of liver fibrosis METHODS: Systematic review was done revealed 48 studies, meta-analysis was done on hyaluronic acid and APRI studies, then the routine laboratory tests derived from AST and Platelets as one of the promising non-invasive markers in diagnosing the degree of liver fibrosis in 150 Egyptian patients with chronic HCV was done.RESULTS:Meta-analysis revealed sensitivity and specificity of APRI in detecting significant fibrosis 68.1% and 72.3% respectively and 84% and 83% for detection of cirrhosis
