Abstract The eccentrically braced steel frame EBSF is a proper structural system for earthquake resistance that combines both stiffness of the ordinary concentric bracing and ductility of the moment resisting frames. In this research, a parametric study has been conducted to assess the seismic force reduction factor values of EBSF as it accounts for the ability of structures to dissipate energy through inelastic deformations. Hence, nonlinear static analysis (pushover) and nonlinear time history analysis have been conducted using the finite element method. The well known N2-method has been, in turn, employed for the ductility factor evaluation. The values obtained are compared with the results in the literature and with those specified in the seismic design codes. Accordingly, a reduction factor value has been recommended for the EBSF in the Egyptian code |
