Abstract

End-Stage Renal Disease is a major public health problem that has been associated with a growing burden on healthcare systems and the economy worldwide (Sanyaolu et al., 2018). Adherence to hemodialysis for patients with end-stage renal disease is essential andleads to lifestyle changes such as the need to regularly go to a dialysis center, consistently take prescribed medications, and extensively modify their diets. Also, successful treatment of hemodialysis patients depends on maximum patient adherence to treatment (Dodd et al., 2018). The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of nursing intervention on compliance to therapeutic regimen and clinical outcomes among patients with hemodialysis. Setting: The study was carried out at hemodialysis unit in Menoufia University and Shebin El-Kom teaching hospitals. Subjects: A consecutive sample of 100 adult patients on hemodialysis was randomly selected and assigned alternatively into two equal groups, 50patients for each group. • Study group (I): they received nursing intervention along with routine hospital care. • Control group (Π): exposed only to routine hospital care. Tools of the study: three tools were utilized for data collection Instrument I: - Structure interview questionnaire. Instrument II: - Compliance assessment data sheet. Instrument III: - Biophysiological measurement to The main findings of the present study were • There was highly significantly improvement in total knowledge score among study group (I) than control group (II). • There was highly significantly improvement in the total compliance score in subjects of study group (I) than control group (II). • There was highly significantly improvement in the clinical outcomes (lab findings, vital signs, interdialytic weight gain and vascular access complications) in study group (I) than control group (II Conclusion Nursing intervention is an effective way for improving compliance to ther apeuticregimen and clinical outcomes among hemodialysis patients. Recommendations Monthly compliance progress report should be initiated in the hospital by the dialysis nurse to discuss their patient’s non-adherence behaviors and supervised healthteaching regarding treatment regimen should be given for hemodialysis patients to improve their compliance behavior.
