Abstract Background: Bipolar mood disorder is a leading psychiatric illness across the world, severely affecting quality of life and causing an increased incidence of suicide, recently multiple studies were concerned with the relation between Eating disorders and BD. Aim: To study the association between eating disorders and bipolar mood disorder and to detect Clinical correlates of eating disorder comorbidity in patients with bipolar disorder. Method: This was a case control comparative study; carried out in Okasha Institute of Psychiatry, between September 2022 and March 2023. Scientific and ethical approval were obtained from both ethical committees of institute of Psychiatry and Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, and the cases who accepted to participate signed a written informed consent that was provided within the study. Results: There were 100 subjects included 50 cases of BD and 50 healthy matched controls, showing non-statistically significant difference as regards the age and gender. Conclusion: Our study showed that the probability for developing Eating disorders is significantly elevated in patients Bipolar mood disorder in comparison to matched healthy controls. Moreover, our study showed there is no correlation between the type of Bipolar mood disorder and the development of eating disorder. |
