Abstract

The application of ionizing radiations “gamma rays” is recently using in many fields like industries, nuclear reactors, medical diagnostics and treatment, food irradiation, nuclear waste storage sites, biological researchers, and high energy physics experiments But, exposure to gamma rays have effects on human life, the environment, and other materials. Therefore, shielding from side effects of radiation on the human life and the environment is one of the important parameters when we using radiation sources. The radiation protection depends on four factors: time, distance, shielding, and activity of gamma ray source. Recently, many researchers have studied various radiation shielding materials to protect human life and the environment. Polymers are materials with lower atomic number and density can reinforced with high atomic number (high-Z) materials to increase radiation shielding effectiveness.
