Abstract

The compression of Electroencephalography (EEG) signals is considered in this thesis. Normally, brain EEG signals are of large size and multi-channel nature. The transmission and storage of these signals require a large bandwidth. It is well known that the bandwidth of communication and the storage size are limited resources. That is why compression algorithms for this type of signal are in bad need for modification to be suitable for storage and communication. The thesis begins with a survey study of existing EEG signal compression methods. After that, the thesis introduces an attempt to work on EEG signals with the popular differential encoding scheme that has been previously adopted for speech signals. The lowpass nature of both types of signals encouraged to work with the differential concept on the EEG signals. This method is lossy in nature, but it frequently succeeds with lowpass signals.
