Abstract

Attempts to predict hypotension after induction of anesthesia were done
using different parameters. IVC diameter and percentage of weight loss before
surgery were used in a cohort of neurosurgical patients. IVC diameter was tested
also in general surgical population.
Low heart rate variability was shown to be a good predictor of hypotension
in major abdominal surgery patients. Stroke volume variation was also shown to
bea good predictor of hypotension.
Peripheral perfusion index (PPI) is a variable measured by Radical-7
(Masimo) device and reflects the ratio between pulsatile and non-pulsatile
portions of peripheral circulation. This index was tested as a predictor of
hypotension after induction in general surgery patients and showed high
sensitivity and good specificity.
