Abstract

Eighty percent of teenagers deal with acne vulgaris, a condition of the pilosebaceous unit. Acne may cause damage to the face and emotional distress.
Scars may be altered using less invasive techniques. They boost dermal ECM proteins without ablating the epidermis, therefore they cause less adverse effects and need less recovery time. Microneedling is rapidly growing in popularity as the most well-established therapeutic method for atrophic post-acne scars.
Subcision, or incisionless subcutaneous surgery, has gained favour in the realm of aesthetics, especially for the treatment of skin scars. Therefore, it is particularly useful for treating cellulite, scars, stretch marks, wounds, and wrinkles. Subcision is often used in conjunction with other methods for treating atrophic scars left behind by acne.
The purpose of this research was to compare three different approaches to treating acne scars: subcision, skin needling, and a combination of the two.
In this research, 39 patients with post acne scars received average of four to eight sessions according to patient satisfaction with microneedling and subcision on right and left sides of the face correspondingly with 2 weeks interval. At 2 months after previous session, clinical examination was done.
The present study showed marked improvement of acne scars after combined sunbcision and microneedling with dermapen therapies in RT side of both groups with reduction of two grade acne scar score, reduction of one grade acne scar score on the LT side, but creates a successful showed improvement more than dermapen.
There was a statistically significant difference between subcision and microneedling in reducing the acne scars score on the LT side of the face, with suction showing higher improvement than dermapen.
Apart from some temporary erythema and edoema, neither microneedling nor subcision had any discernible negative effects on the patients who had either procedure.
Finally, both subcision and microneedling are easy to tolerate non-invasive treatment techniques for atrophic post-acne scars with similar effectiveness, few side effects, and little downtime.
