Abstract Signal transducer and transcriptional activator 4 (STAT4) variants play a crucial role in developing several autoimmune diseases, including type 1 diabetes (T1D).Diabetes mellitus is a polygenetic disorder includes complex interaction between genetic and environmental factors, Type 1 diabetes is a genetic autoimmune disease caused by T-cell-mediated damage of pancreatic cells that regulate production of insulin with in blood. The current study sought to shed light on the function of STAT4 (rs7574865) and (rs11889341) variants allelic and genotypic variations in susceptibility to type 1 diabetes among Egyptians were discovered using real-time PCR. 100 subjects that have been diagnosed with T1D were enrolled in this study and 100 healthy subjects as control group. Clinical data, anthropometric measurements and the polymorphisms (rs11889341 & rs7574865) of STAT4 gene were genotyped among all subjects. This study confirmed that rs7574865 (T allele and GT genotype) and the rs11889341 (CT genotype) have a significant association with diabetes type 1 occurrence among Egyptian patients. Also, these gene polymorphisms have a significant correlation with other clinical parameters. |
