Abstract

Autonomic dysreflexia is a common clinical complication in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI). Objective: To study the effect of the neuromodulation on autonomic dysreflexia (AD) in patients with SCI. Patients: Forty traumatic incomplete SCI patients (T1–T5) from both sexes had participated in the current study. Their age ranged from 25 to 45 years old and the duration of illness ranged from 3-12 months. Method: Patients were assigned randomly into two equal groups; A and B. Patients in group (A); the study group received transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) therapy for 30 min/ session from prone lying position with applying two channels of electrodes paravertebral below T6 spinal level. In addition, they received selected physical therapy program for AD in the form of tilting table and passive exercises. group (B); the control group received the same selected physical therapy program only. Electrocardiogram monitor was used to assess blood pressure, pulse rate and ECG device was used to assess heart rate variability before and after eight weeks training period for both groups, three sessions per week
