Abstract

Biochemical Sensors Based on Metal Nanoparticles-Decorated Nanostructures Platform for Biomedical Applications”
Degree: PhD (Analytical Chemistry)
In this thesis, two electrochemical biosensors were developed for the determination of glucose and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The enzymatic glucose sensor was fabricated based on covalent immobilization of the glucose oxidase (GOx) enzyme onto gold nanoparticles-decorated cellulose nanocrystals (AuNPs-CNCs) via the formation of amide bond between the amino groups of GOx and the activated carboxylic groups of thioctic acid assembled on gold nanoparticles (AuNPs)-modified CNCs. On the other hand, a non- enzymatic H2O2 sensor was fabricated based on core-shell-decorated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). Different microscopic and spectroscopic characterizations were performed in order to confirm the success of the preparation and decoration processes. The electroanalytical performance of the glucose sensor (GOX-TA- AuNPs-CNC/GCE) and H2O2 sensor (Au@TiO2/MWCNTs/GCE) were evaluated by using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), respectively. The two sensors exhibited a high sensitivity with a linear concentration range from 0.1 to 1.6 mmol/L and a detection limit of 40 μmol/L for the glucose sensor while a linear concentration range from 5 to 200 μmol/L and from 200 umol/L to 6.0 mmol/L with a detection limit of 1.40 μmol/L were obtained for the H2O2 sensor. The obtained biosensors were finally applied for determination glucose and H2O2 in biological samples. Supervisors: Signature:
