Abstract A total of 104 freshly dead ducklings were collected from 8 flocks, mainly 41Pekin, 58 Muscovy and 5 Mallard breeds, suspected to be affected with Riemerella anatipestifer, all breeds with different ages were collected from different localities (Bourdain, Belbais, fakous, dearb negm, abo kabir and Menia Elkamh) within Sharika between Autumn 2021 and winter 2022 which show high mortality up to 75%and clinical picture characteristic of R.A infection were observed among the examined flocks Twenty nine out of 104 (27.88%) suspected R. anatipestifer isolates proved to be small, convex, transparent, non-hemolytic and dew drop-like on blood agar but failed to grow on MacConkey agar medium. Blood films and liver impression smears stained with Leishman’s stain showed the presence of bipolar coccobacilli between RBCs and hepatocytes The results of biochemical reactions revealed 6 positive isolates out of 29 (20.68%) suspected to be R. anatipestifer (positive for gelatin liquefaction tests and were negative for indole, Ornithine decarboxylase). |
