Abstract

Diabetes has become a widespread epidemic, primarily because of the increasing prevalence and incidence of type 2 diabetes. The International diabetes federation and the American diabetes association, in 2006, recommended lifestyle intervention initially for people with impaired fasting glucose or impaired glucose tolerance (weight control and physical activity). This study aimed to evaluate the effect of exercise as prophylactic and curative regimen for diabetes and its complications. Forty male albino rats were divided into control group; diabetic group, diabetes + exercise (D + EX) group underwent exercise for 4 weeks after induction of diabetes and EX+D group underwent exercise for 4 weeks before induction of diabetes. After the end of the study, body mass index (BMI), fasting serum glucose level, fasting serum insulin level and serum levels of triglyceride, HDL, silent information regulator one (SIRT1) level and SRT1 activity were measured
