Abstract

BBotanical study and DNA profiling of Prunus amygdalus Batsch ”Umm alfahm” cultivar were conducted. Phytochemical screening, extraction and examination of the extractives were also done. Investigation of the volatile constituents of freshly collected leaves and stems by using GC/MS analysis revealed that almond are rich in oxygenated volatile components. Study of lipidal content by using GC/MS analysis were also done on stems, leaves and seeds of almond. Also investigation of the nutritional profile on kernels of Prunus amygdalus Batsch were done by studying proximate analysis, vitamin, mineral and amino acids contents were confirmed that the kernels of Prunus amygdalus Batsch cultivated in Egypt are good for health and should readily be incorporated into diet. Investigation of phenolic compounds were done quantitatively by using HPLC analysis showed nine phenolic compounds, and qualitatively by using LC-DAD/ESI-MS were revealed a total of 34 metabolites, mostly phenolics, were tentatively identified in ethanolic extract and 27 in ethyl acetate fraction, among the identified compounds, eleven phenolic compounds; acteoside, apigenin, carnosic acid, coumaroyl-quinic acid, dihydroquercetin- hexoside, fisetin-deoxyhexoside, hesperidin, quercetin acetyl hexoside, rosmarinic acid, vanillic acid glucoside and veratric acid were reported for the first time in Prunus amygdalus Batsch
