Abstract

Recently, mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) have attracted the attention of researchers as a very promising drug carrier due to its uniform pore structure and high surface area. Studies have been made to assess the ability of incorporating active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) into different mesoporous silica nanoparticles. Depending on the differences in pore sizes of MSNs, they can be used either to control or to enhance the release rates of API. Ketoprofen (KP) is non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug with poor aqueous solubility, about 1.5 nm molecular size and having particle sizes ranging from 0.7 to 15 æm, was selected for encapsulation into different mesoporous silica nanoparticles. The work in this thesis focused on studying the ability of encapsulating KP into different mesoporous silica nanoparticles. Study the effect of the loaded KP into different MSNs on its solubility and dissolution properties. Formulating the drug-loaded MSNs into solid dosage forms, and assessing the effect of the formulation process onto mesoporous characteristic structural properties. Finally, evaluating the pharmacodynamics of the formulated drug-loaded MSNs. Therefore, the work in this thesis is divided into four chapters
