Abstract The present study aims to integrate the paleontological, sedimentological and sequence stratigraphical characteristics of the the Bartonian- Priabonian succession (the Eocene Gehannam, Birket Qaroun and Qasr El Sagha formations) and their paleonenvironmental interpretation in the Wadi El Hitan and North Qaroun Lake sectors, Fauoum, Western Desert, Egypt. New geological and geomorphological maps were constructed for the present study areas. The taxonomic composition and sequence stratigraphic position of the vertebrates (mainly Eocene whales and sea cows) bearing horizons (26 horizons) were recognized |
