Abstract

Background: Toward designing new class of desired physicochemical properties of metallic nanomaterials such as spherical gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) capped with citrate to be used as a drug delivery system for anticancerous drug like 6- Mercapopurine (6-MP) against human breast cancer. This could increase curative effect of potent drug and lower side effects of high dose of anticancerous drug. This may require extensive evaluation of biological effects of AuNPs in both cancerous and normal cell lines other than colorimetric cytotoxic assays. Conclusion. Concentrated solution of free engineered Gold nanoparticles (100uM, 35.8mg/L), could enhance and improving anti- cancerous activity of 6-MP via apoptotic mechanism. This can overcome drug resistance, side effects, increasing therapeutic index and selectivity of drug. Further study is required to measure quantitatively expression levels of apoptotic genes and confirmed by expression of proteins involved in response to DNA damage
