Abstract

Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) is an advanced form of conformal radiotherapy that utilizes computer controlled linear accelerators to deliver precise radiation doses to the Planning Target Volume (PTV) and reduce the health tissue dose. The present work aims to investigate the effects of different treatment parameters of the outcome of IMRT in esophageal cancer to select the optimal treatment parameters. Esophageal cancer cases were chosen randomly, suffering from different types of esophageal cancer. The cases were categorized into three groups to be re- planned according to the factor under study. The CT scan data of those patients were transferred to the XIO planning system version 4.7. To ensure that the similarity or difference between the techniques was due to the factor under study alone, the same optimization constraints were applied for each plan in each group and all other parameters were kept constant
