Abstract

Frozen shoulder associated with diabetes mellitus is characterized by loss of shoulder range of motion. Its complication on static lung volumes has not been previously reported. The aim of this study was to find out the response of static lung volumes to different management of diabetic frozen shoulder. Forty diabetic (20 men, 20 women) patients with frozen shoulder were chosen from physical medicine and rehabilitation centre military forces, Helmyet Elzaytoun, Cairo, Egypt in the period from February to December 2014. Their age ranged from 55 - 65 years. They were assigned into two equal groups in number (10 men and 10 women) in each group; group (A) used traditional multigem, and group (B) used milon circuit training. Intensity of exercise was 50 - 60% of 1 repetition max / 3 times per week / 3 months for both groups. Static lung volumes (vital capacity (VC), Inspiratory reserve volume (IRV), Expiratory reserve volume (ERV), Tidal volume (VT), Inspiratory capacity (IC) and Forced vital capacity at expiration (FVCex) and shoulder range of motion were assessed at baseline and after 3 months. It showed that there were no significant difference in VC, VT, ERV, IRV, IC, FVCex, shoulder abduction and flexion between men in group (A)and group (B), also there were no significant difference between in VC, VT, IRV, IC, FVCex, all shoulder range of motion between women in group A and group B
