Abstract
The research focuses on how public space can be an important asset in achieving and enhancing social sustainability in new developments around Cairo. The main case study upon which the analysis is done is 6th of October city. The research examines the current state of public space in the new development, and applies the notions and concepts related to social sustainability in public space extracted from the literature review and the analysis of international case studies. The outcome of the research is a matrix for evaluating the different aspect{u2019}s role in enhancing social sustainability. This matrix as well as the other research findings can be used by legislators and designers to enhance public space in Cairo{u2019}s new developments in order to attain comprehensive and livable communities
