Abstract

Aggression is considered one of the most common types of abnormal behavior that aims to cause harm to oneself or another person or actually causes it. Aggressive behaviors include verbal threats or physical violence toward others, and sometimes included explosive acts of impulsive property destruction and self-injurious behaviors. Objectives The objectives of the present study were: To determine the prevalence and some risk factors of aggressive behaviors among primary school children in Eshnaway village, Gharbia Governorate, Egypt. Subject and methods Cross sectional study performed in rural area in the primary schools in Esnaway village, El-Gharbia governorate Egypt. The sample of 281 students has been chosen by proportionate systematic random sample in the academic year of 2020-2021. The study was conducted in 3 primary schools including general school, language school and Aazhar, schools include both male and female, the study included students aging from 6-12 years. Screening of aggression using Modified Overt Aggression Scale was administered to the students. This scale rates the patient’s aggressive behavior over the past week as regard to verbal aggression, physical aggression, auto-aggression and aggression against property to give a total MOAS score about the patient’s aggressive behavior. Students were subjected to questionnaires designed by the researcher. It consists of nineteen items including a wide range of social, family and school factors that may be risk factors for aggression. These factors are age in years, site of school, relationships to parents, marital status of parents, birth order, school atmosphere, relationships with teachers and friends, history of dropping class, sports, hobbies, watching movie smoking, drug addiction of student and his family, family history of psychiatric illness, personal history of physical abuse & physical abuse between family members.
