Abstract

The medicinal herb Ammi visnaga has in general a low seed
germination rate, as a result breaking seed dormancy and raising
germination percentage warrant a lot of many anothers attention and
curiosity. The goal of this study was to promote the germination of A.
visnaga seeds by priming them with gibberellic acid (GA3), kinetin (KN),
and naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) for 12 hours at 100, 200, 300, 400,
and 500 mg/l concentrations and then tracing their long-term effects on
seed yield. Seed priming with KN at 300 and 400 mg/l resulted in
maximum increase of germination rate up to 84 %, compared to 40 % for
untreated seeds. Tow amino acids, (phenylalanine (PHE) and asparagine
(ASN)) were sprayed at 100, 200, and 300 mg/l concentrations during the
vegetative stage for their effects on the growth parameters and the
contents of medicinal secondary metabolites. The produced seeds from
treated plants oils content and oils fatty acid content were analzsed by
GC- MS to determine the changes in fatty acid profile of the seeds. Seed
priming with GA3, KN, and NAA has a significant impact on the quantity
and quality of fatty acids produced in seed yield. Furthermore, during the
vegetative stage, foliar spraying with PHE or ASN resulted in an increase
in unsaturated fatty acids, which has numerous health benefits.
Measurements of the important medicinal constituents (khellin) for A.
visnaga seeds was induced by spraying with PHE to the highest value of
recorded content of khellin in comparison with all the other treatments of
this study and the control which suggests spraying the plant by its suitable
concentration and time of the vegetative stage to the medicinal value of
the A. visnaga seeds as an easy and practical why of increase the
economical value of the plant.
