Abstract
Obesity is a complex condition, and during the past 30 years, it has become more common among youngsters in Italy and many other European nations. The quality of life of afflicted patients and the healthcare system are both profoundly impacted by obesity. Diabetes and the metabolic syndrome are two clinical comorbidities that are associated with obesity. In order to prevent concomitant metabolic problems (impaired glucose tolerance and type 2 diabetes) and lower cardiovascular risk, the standard of care for this patient still include lifestyle adjustments, a nutritious diet, and frequent physical activity. In order to quickly refer the kid to a paediatric endocrinologist and a specialist reference centre, clinicians should be aware of potential risk factors (sedentary lifestyle, food high in sugar and fat, hereditary disorders).
