Abstract

Plant-mediated nickel oxide nanoparticles (NiONPs) have
gained considerable attention for potential applications in diverse
fields due to their exciting size-dependent electronic and optical
properties. One goal of this thesis is to develop NiONPs coated
with biomolecules present in Ficus Nitida (FN) extract following
green protocol (use of environment-friendly reagents) for potential
use to remove dye from wastewater in addition to antimicrobial
(antibacterial) applications. This thesis also highlights the design
and development of NiONPs that target cancers to assist with the
diagnosis and therapy of cancer.
Research developing new synthesis protocols to generate
NiONPs with desired properties has received enormous attention
due to their massive applications. One of the primary prerequisites
for using NiONPs in biomedical applications is that they are nontoxic and biocompatible in both in vitro and in vivo environments.
NiONPs should be coated with a protective layer to prevent
aggregation. Biomolecules that fulfill these requirements are
decided to produce NiONPs. Biomolecules such as peptides,
proteins, DNA, polyphenolic, vitamins and carbohydrates may
serve the dual purpose of stabilizing the nanoparticles for
biomedical applications.
In the present work, NiONPs were synthesized via a green
synthesis approach using FN plant extract- for the first time under
ambient conditions. As observed in NiONPs synthesis, thestoichiometry of the FN plant extract (reducing agen
