Abstract

The study’s main issue is the poor listening comprehension abilities of EFL students. The following main statement can be used to describe this issue: What is the effectiveness of a program based on podcasting to develop listening comprehension skills for EFL students at the faculty of specific education?
This main question can be sub-divided into the following:
1) What are the necessary listening comprehension skills for EFL students ?
2) To what extent are listening comprehension skills necessary for EFL students?
3) What are the main features of a program based on podcasting ?
4) Is the program based on podcasting effective on developing EFL students listening comprehension skills?
The following instruments will be designed with the current study’s objectives in mind:
1) A checklist of EFL students
2) A test of listening comprehension in English
The test will be used to determine how well the experimental and control study groups have mastered listening comprehension.
3) Adopting a podcasting-based program to improve listening comprehension
Also, this study is delimited to:
• A sample of a fourth year at the faculty of specific education
• Some listening comprehension skills, required for EFL students
At the end of the research, the researcher finds that:
1. There is a statistically significant difference at the 0.05 level between the mean scores of the experimental group in the pre- testing and post-testing in favor of the post testing in the overall EFL listening comprehension skills.
2. There is a statistically significant difference at the 0.05 level between the mean scores of the participants in the pre-testing and post-testing in favor of the post testing in the first listening comprehension level which is literal skills.
3. There is a statistically significant difference at the 0.05 level between the mean scores of the participants in the pre-testing and post-testing in favor of the post testing in the second listening comprehension level which is inferential skills.
4. There is a statistically significant difference at the 0.05 level between the mean scores of the participants in the pre-testing and post-testing in favor of the post testing in the third listening comprehension level which is critical skills.
5.2. Conclusion:
Based on the results of the study and data analysis, it can be concluded the following:
• Podcast was very useful in improving the English language students’ listening comprehension skills by providing: sufficient English listening tasks that were all authentic and relevant to the English language skills. The authentic material reinforced the students practices in listening comprehension.
• The podcasts are available for reviewing what they had in the live podcast ,the repetition of the viewing the recorded live podcast via on-demand made was used to optimize performance level
• Discussion via podcast for any problems that the students had while practicing the target listening skills in order to avoid or overcome their in any upcoming podcast.
• Extra recommended listening resources on the target listening skills by the end of live podcast to extend their practice time .
• Opportunity to get engaged with listening material via interactive quizzes.
5.3. Recommendations
It can be recommended that:
• in depending listening skills, podcast should consider the following:
a. Provision of abundant listening resources for extensive practice
b. Achieving the podcast to enable the students to review
c. Incorporation of authentic material within the target content of the students major field of the students
d. Students interaction with the learning material via interaction listening quizzes that provide immediate corrective feedback
e. Using the podcast to enhance the communication between teacher and students all time
f. Removing the barriers between the students and the technological tools through inserting podcast in every listening class
g. Focusing on the students’ awareness of the necessity of applying technological resources in an EFL class especially for practicing listening and speaking
h. Focusing on the strategies’ that will help students to improve their listening skills and include them in the podcast learning or in blended learning activities oriented to enhance their competences through the use of the podcast application.
