Abstract Historical complexes are the evidence of the past. Some of these historical complexes facing a continuous change in its urban tissue, this happen because of rapid and uncontrollable urban developments and growth. The continuous change in the historical tissue ignoring its context causes loss of architecture and social value of historical setting which lead to destruction of its urban identity that comes out an urban conservation problem. The main goal of conservation is to enliven cultural properties by evaluating their architectural, historical, environmental, visual, and aesthetic characteristics at the same time there are new building technologies introduced by industrialization and modernism. These inflexible conservation principal with the changes that happen nowadays lead to either new building design in the form of imitation of tradition or totally inharmonious with the surrounding. This problem has been noticed at the period of revival styles. Although the details of the new buildings of that time were derived from historic architecture, the way these details were used, the scale and sometimes the structures and functions were alien with the surroundings. The gap between old and new was noticed with modernism within the period of 1950’s to1970’sas the result of introduction of industrialization and technologies since the language of architecture had totally renewed. |
