Abstract

Two field experiments were carried out at the Agricultural Experiment Station, Alexandria University during 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 winter seasons to investigate the effect of foliar spraying of humic acid (0 and 2.4 kg/ha) and both Fe and Zn micronutrients (0, 480 and 960 g/ha of FeSO4 and/or ZnSO4) on three durum wheat cultivars (Casino, Bani Sweif6 and Sohag3). The two experiments were laid out in split-plot design with three replications, where combinations of HA levels and cultivars occupied the main plots, while combinations of Fe and Zn levels were randomly allocated to the sub plots. The most important results will be presented in the following: 5.1 Growth and growth attributes: 5.1.1 Leaf area index (LAI)
- Leaf area index at 55 days was significantly affected by cultivars× humic acid in the two seasons, and cultivar × zinc interactions in the second season, only.
- The highest LAI at (55DAS) value was obtained with untreated Bani Sweif6 cultivar with humic acid application in the two seasons.
- In the second season, Casino cultivar untreated with zinc sulphate gave the highest LAI at 55 days.
- Leaf area index at 70 days after sowing was mainly affected all 3-factor interactions and iron concentrations in the two seasons, besides wheat cultivars and zinc application in the first season and humic acid in the second season.
- Sohag3 cultivar had the highest LAI at 70 DAS, sprayed wheat plants with 960 g ZnSO4/ha, also produced the highest LAI at 70 DAS in the same growing season.
- Humic acid application decreased LAI at 70 DAS in the second season.
- Wheat plants treated with 960 g FeSO4/ha showed the highest LAI at 70 DAS in both seasons.
- Regarding cultivar × humic acid × iron interaction, the highest LAI at 70 DAS, in the first season, was obtained from Sohag3 untreated with humic acid or iron, however Casino untreated with humic acid and sprayed with 960 g FeSO4/ha gave the highest LAI in the second season.
- Sohag3 and Casino untreated with humic acid, but sprayed with 960 g ZnSO4/ha gave the highest LAI in the two seasons.
- Concerning humic acid × iron × zinc interaction effect, the highest LAI at 70 DAS, in first season, was obtained, from untreated wheat plants with humic acid or iron and sprayed with 960 g ZnSO4/ha, however in the second season, untreated plants with humic acid and sprayed with iron and zinc 960 g/ha gave the highest LAI.
- In the cultivars × iron × zinc interaction, in the first season, Sohag3 cultivar untreated with iron and sprayed with 960 g ZnSO4/ha gave the highest value of LAI at 70 DAS, however, the highest LAI value was obtained with Casino cultivar treated with iron and zinc 960 g/ha for each in the second season. 605.1.2 Relative growth rate (RGR) g/g/day:
- Relative growth rate (RGR) was significantly affected by cultivars × humic acid× iron and cultivars × iron× zinc in the first season.
- The highest (RGR) values resulted from Casino cultivar treated with humic acid (2.4 kg/ha) combined with 960 g FeSO4/ha or sprayed with 960 g ZnSO4 and 960g FeSO4/ha in the first season.
