Abstract

Egypt is a developing country that depends on imports more than exports. The economists agreed that flexible exchange rate regimes are not helpful for the developing countries. Economic policy is divided into monetary policy and fiscal policy. The exchange rate regimes are one of the monetary policy tools that are used to achieve economic policy goals such as high rates of economic growth and lower rates of inflation and other goals that differ according to the country’s economic conditions. Economists agreed that effective economic policy is a combination of fiscal policy and monetary policy. This indicates that the change in exchange rate regimes is accompanied by a change in the other monetary policy tools as well as the fiscal policy tools. The agriculture sector contributes a small percentage in the Egyptian economy. It means that the macroeconomic policies will do a huge effect on the agriculture sector and the Egyptian economy. The study problem is that although devaluation of local currency leads to encouraging investments, increasing exports, decreasing imports and stimulating economic growth. The decision to floating the Egyptian pound did not achieve the desired target of applying it, whether on the agricultural sector or/and Egyptian economy. In other words, the problem of the study can be expressed in the following question:What is the impact of the floating of Egyptian pound and other macroeconomic policies (monetary policy and fiscal policy) on the Egyptian economy and agricultural sector in the short-run and long-run? The main objective of this study is to identify the impact floating of Egyptian pound and changes in other macroeconomic policies on the macroeconomic indicators of the Egyptian economy and the agricultural sector, this objective achieves by studying the development of the Egyptian economy and agricultural sector, evaluating the effectiveness of floating of Egyptian pound and changes in other macroeconomic policies (monetary policy and fiscal policy) on the Egyptian economy and agricultural sector according to Kaldor’s Square Approach, and estimating the causal relationships between macroeconomic policies (monetary policy and fiscal policy) and the macroeconomic indicators of the Egyptian economy and agricultural sector. The study is based on descriptive and quantitative analysis methods to achieve its objectives. As it used the descriptive analytical approach to explain the nature of macroeconomic variables, as well as in understanding the concept, regimes, and theories of the exchange rate and their relationship with macroeconomic indicators, as well as knowledge of economic policies represented in monetary policy and fiscal policy. In addition to the methods of econometric analysis through an analytical - 82 - framework of time series such as Kaldor’s analysis, ordinary least square, robust regression, unit root test according to augmented dicky-fuller (ADF), Johansen cointegration and vector error correction model (VECM). In addition to impulse response function (IRF) and variance decomposition. The study estimated by multiple regression methods.
