Abstract

In locations where it is common, a diagnosis of fungal keratitis might be difficult to come by. Although corneal fungal infections are avoidable, the complications that might arise from them are often permanent due to diagnostic delays. Mycotic keratitis therapy has been widened thanks to recent research and developments in the area.
The potentially blinding keratitis produced by Fusarium species affects many otherwise healthy people. Fusarium species are notoriously resistant to antifungals, making it challenging to eradicate the infection. Therefore, corneal infection often leads to endophthalmitis, which may cause poor visual results and even need enucleation in extreme instances. Contact lens usage, trauma (which includes surgery), and immunosuppressive illness or medication all increase the likelihood of developing an eye infection triggered by Fusarium spp.
When it comes to treating serious infections caused by fungi, the majority of the antifungal drugs presently on the market have serious drawbacks, such as low bioavailability and insufficient ocular penetration. The prolonged clearance of fungal infections is due in large part to these characteristics, particularly in severe fungal keratitis, with therapeutic penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) being the last treatment option. There are a variety of novel antifungal drugs and medication delivery strategies being tested to see whether they may enhance outcomes after fungal infections despite these drawbacks.
The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of different treatment modalities on fusarium keratitis.
