Abstract
Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a leading cause of blindness globally. In the context of DR, the etiology of diabetic retinopathy is primarily related to a dysregulation of the retinal vasculature, which includes a breakdown of the blood retinal barrier. However, new evidence suggests the occurrence of diabetic choroidopathy. It has also been proposed that choroidal artery anomalies, even in the absence of visible retinal alterations, may be responsible for impaired vision in DR.
