Abstract he current study is an interventional prospective case series study that was carried out on the patients attending the orthopedic outpatient clinic of Suez-Canal university hospitals complaining of chronic lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow). Twenty patients (14 males and 6 females) with an age ranged between 20-49 years with a mean age of 37.60 years were recruited in the study. They were 9 manual workers with different jobs, 7 office workers and 4 housewives’. The dominant elbow was affected in 10 patients while the non- dominant elbow was affected in the other 10 patients. The mean duration of their symptoms was 6.95 weeks with a range between 2-16 weeks after consideration of chronicity (3-months from the first attack). The purpose of this study was to assess the functional outcome of the patients with chronic lateral epicondylitis treated by autogenous PRP injection. The evaluation included two parameters maximum grip strength and also pain and function assessment using Mayo elbow performance index. The patients were evaluated before the injection and at 2-weeks, 1 month and 2-months after the injection. After the end of follow-up period, the maximum grip strength was improved from a range of 50-80 % with Mean±SD 56.00 ± 7.54 before injection, to be ranged between 70-100 % with Mean±SD 92.75 ± 8.35 at 2 months’ follow-up. Most of the patients in the study restored grip power after about one month from the injection. |
