Abstract

Vitiligo is a common acquired pigmentary disorder due to melanocytes destruction that may cause significant cosmotic and psychiatric problem. Although exact mechanism is unknown, but due to genetic predisposition, immune-mediated injury or other unidentified toxins, the melanocytes stop their function or physically disappear in the affected epidermis. Also there is frequent association of vitiligo with other autoimmune diseases.
The main objective in treating vitiligo is to induce pigmentation and improve the cosmotic defect.
Different treatment modalities have been used in vitiligo but resistance to therapy, treatment complications and recurrence after treatment are the major problems of the current treatments.
In the present study we tried to find out the efficacy of combining needling and tacrolimus 0.1% ointment in treatment of adult vitiligo.
Twenty four adult patient with stable vitiligo aged from 18 to 50 years old were included in our study. They were chosen from the Outpatient Clinic of Dermatology, Venereology and Andrology Department, Zagazig University Hospital, in the period from (September 2016 to September 2017). Diagnosis of vitiligo was done by clinical picture and woods light application. After informed consent, in each patient a patch of 15 x 5 cm skin area or smaller was selected as a target lesion for the study.
